Q: …………… Chevelle?
I think they are cool but i havent really read anything about them on here what do people think?
A: They are a really good band that always gets overlooked, ever since they started. Here’s what little I know of them:
1. From Chicago
2. Used to be three brothers, but one of them left.
3. Been around since 1995, long time for a relatively youthful group.
The new song from the lastest CD is I Get It, thumbs up.
Q: How hard is it to change a 1969 chevelle SS 396 from 4 speed to automatic?
How hard is it to change a 1969 chevelle SS 396 from 4 speed to automatic? Do I just have to buy a new tranny?
A: Well almost, you need to know what you are doing first, then other things you have to consider. Trans mount set up, manual and auto are different, shift linkage, farly easy to set up and install, driveshat length, So no just buying a trans is not the only thing you have to do, but is do able and a lot easier than switching a auto to a manual
Q: How much would it cost to change my Chevelle into a convertible?
Would it be possible to convert a 69 70 or 71 Chevelle Malibu into a convertible. How much would it cost. Who would I pay. Would it look good. Has anyone done this with their classic cars. Anything else I need to know.
A: Convertible conversion can be and have been done, but they are by no stretch of the imagination cheap or easy. The best route would be to talk to a GOOD hot rod or custom shop in your area that has lots of custom body work experience. You would likely come out cheapest by finding a convertible parts car. This will be a long search for a car with all of the mechanical parts for the top intact that is pretty much useless otherwise, but I saw one for sale in my area that would’ve been perfect about 6 months ago, rust bucket, no title, but all of the top mechanisms were there, for about $1800.00. Expect $40-80 an hour labor for the conversion, I’ve never done one so I can’t quote you a number of hours. But don’t expect it to be cheap. Also, the convertible cars have more bracing and inner structure in some panels to account for lack of a roof, all of this will need to be added, and you will be best off with new parts here, as old rusty braces are kinda like using cooked noodles to splint a broken bone. Interior trim will be different from the doors back, all of this will have to be purchased if the parts car’s originals are trash, as will all of the cloth and rubber parts in the top.
For what you will spend on the conversion, start to finish, to have it done right, you could restore the hard top car and call it a day. Or, you could build a damn nice engine/trans combo to drop in. But it would look good, and you would have the drop top that you want. It’s all in how much you’re willing o spend.
Another option would be to sell the car you have and locate a convertable. (they are out there, I had a ‘68, my uncle has a ‘70)
Q: What is the Best way to build a 1971 Chevelle?
I just bought this Chevelle and i don’t know a lot about cars, but love learning. I want to build this car to maximum strength. Right now there is a 350 in there. That’s all i know. Open to any suggestions.
A: WRONG! Don’t put a 454 in there. The 350 motor is a great one to have especially for an amateur like yourself. Granted, the 454 will put out more power but if you do that, parts are harder to find, more expensive and gas will drive you insane. You can build the 350 perfectly fine to put out enough horsepower to make youself very happy in the end. What I would do first is to replace the intake and carb. If you swap it out with an Edelbrock Performer intake and Edelbrock 600 cfm 4-barrel carb, that thing will fly by itself. Many of these things I’m saying are for sale on Jegs.com, Summitracing.com or you could even go to Google and they can point you into a good direction. After that, you could be done with motor stuff but if you want more, swap out your cylinder heads with higher performance. The thing you have to remember though is this: If you get new heads, be sure the application will fit with a new manifold you want to buy. They have to “sit” next to each other. There are many types you can go with. Partsamerica.com offers Edelbrock, Holley, stock replacements and another good one is vortec. If you want, you could swap out the cam as well. Once again, all this info could be found on websites like summitracing.com. Now, you can start messing with exhaust. I would put Hooker Headers on there with 3″ exhaust pipes. That’ll add a chunk of power. After that, get a k&n air filter, an MSD distributor and ignition system, some good AC Delco spark plugs (others can be NGK, Autolite etc…), a new set of spark plug wires and a good battery. If more, begin messing with some other parts. A good performance water pump, fuel pump, oil pump, alternator etc… I wouldn’t mess with the crank or pistons if they are still good and original. Believe me, the 350 can do wonders for you! Stick with that. Mess with the gears, tranny and all that other stuff as well. This car is endless. I would know. I have a 1972 Chevelle (almost same thing as 71) that I currently love and spend too much money on. But it’s worth it<3. Best of luck! Hope that car will do many things for it. And if you got the money kid, it will. It takes time, there will be mistakes and you will get mad at it, but when it's all over, you got yourself a bada$$ muscle car that other people would kill to have! Stick with it. Best of luck!
Q: What is the best reference resource for restoring a 1972 Chevelle SS?
What is the best reference resource for restoring a 1972 Chevelle SS? I am interested in books, manuals, websites, anything! I have never restore a classic car before, but I am very mechanically inclined. Thanks for the help!
A: My husband has restored several classic cars and he gets most of his parts and Reference materials from Year One and Summit. We also go to the annual car shows at Carlisle, PA and Hershey, PA. You can find a lot of stuff at car show/swap meets and even on Ebay. Good luck on your restore. Make sure to take plenty of pictures to document your progress. It is always fun to look back.
Q: how do I remove a 1969 Chevelle exhaust manifold?
I have a 1969 Chevelle with an Inline 6 engine. My mechanic said that my exhaust manifold has a crack in it and that I will need to remove it and repair it before it will pass inspection. I have been putting this off for a while and now I am ready to pull it off. How do I remove it from the engine block? Do I need to remove the air intake manifold first?
Will I also have to take off the carburetor or should I leave it on?
A: Take the intake and exhaust manifolds off together . They are bolted together so you separate them after you remove them from the motor. If It is cracked you should be able to get one at the salvage yard. Lots of cars and trucks use the same manifold……………………….UJN
EDIT you don’t have to remove the carb but its easier to do if its off. Then leave the 3 bolts loose that hold the two manifolds together and put the manifold on the motor and tighten to the motor and then tighten the bolts beside the carb that bolts the two manifolds together. You don’t need to have them planed or ground as was mentioned as I have never had one leak . Go get an intake and exhaust gasket set for your car. It will be in one box and have the manifold gaskets also should have the donut for the exhaust pipe and the gasket that goes between the two manifolds. You will also need a carb mounting gasket if you remove the carb. Hope this helps.
Q: What are the steps for putting a rear end on a 1972 Chevelle Malibu?
Just that. I want to know the steps for putting a 10 bolt rear end on to a 1972 Chevelle Malibu. I need to put the rear end, the springs, shocks, break lines, and control arms on also. Anyone know? I havent found a website for that so I need help.
A: Pretty simple. Jack up the car enough to roll the rear under. Put jack under nose of rear to keep it straight. Bolt on upper and lower arms. Put springs in. You may have to jack up the body more for the springs to go in. They fit between the frame and perches on the axle. Bolt shocks on. Connect brake flex line to frame with clip. Screw main body hard line to it. Bolt on drive shaft. Connect emergency brake cables. Bleed brakes.
Q: How much horsepower and torque does it take to lift a 1969 Chevy Chevelle 396ss?

A: A set of 90/10’s and drag springs.

Q: How much should I offer for an old rusty chevelle?
I’ve seen this chevelle just rusting on the side of the road for a long time. It looks pretty beat up and I’m pretty sure the owner doesn’t use/want it. I’m not sure of the year-maybe 67. It’s orange with gray spots all over it and looks like it would need a lot of fixing up (which i don’t mind). If i make an offer, how much should it be? How much is the car worth?
A: well talk to him, first find out if hes wanting to sell it, then askin about wuts wrong with it ask to check it out the figure wut its worth
Q: How early should I show up to a Chevelle concert in order to get close to the stage?
My friends and I have GA tickets to the Chevelle/Sick puppies concert in Boston on Feb. 8th at the House of Blues.
I don’t know how popular Chevelle is around boston, but I’m a big fan and would love to get as close to the stage as possible. How early before the doors open should we get there to ensure we get close?
thanks.
A: At any House of BLues, show up as early as they’ll let you! I would say at least 1-2 hours

Q: What is the best way to determine the sell price for 1966 Chevy Chevelle Malibu?
My dad wants to sell his 1966 Chevy Chevelle Malibu. I looked in Edmunds, Autotrader, Kelley Bluebook and Googled but I can’t seem to get a solid price range for his type of car. For most sites, it’s too old to be listed. Other sites are specialty sites that deal in souped up Chevys (completedly modified for muscle and speed). So the price varies from $3000 for parts/major restore to $40,000 to super tricked SS models. My dad’s car is pure stock with all original parts and has been basically garaged for the last 30 years. He only drove it occasionally basically to keep it running. What do you think is the best way to find the reasonable selling price that will sell within reasonable time, like week or two?
A: a car like this will bring pretty much what ever you want to ask for it ,,as for an actual value,,try doing this,,pick a price,,let,s say 4500 and run it in your local auto trader where you live see if you get any calls on it,,,this is how i sold my old car,,it being a plane car,,still makes it have value,,you can’t go by any book on this car because right now the price of old ar,s is down,,from what it was a year ago,,just ask a price and s how many offer,s you get,,hope this helps.
